SIBO
Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) is a common problem today. It is found in over 70% of patients with irritable bowel syndrome and over 60% of patients with celiac disease (with persistent symptoms). In this condition, bacteria from the large intestine translocate to the small intestine, and the individual becomes sensitive to a diverse list of foods that lead to small intestinal bacterial fermentation. In this informative seminar, the different causative mechanisms of SIBO as well as how to recognize them will be discussed.
Topics
  • A systemic review of the latest literature on the exact mechanisms leading to the symptoms and signs of SIBO
  • The list of recommended foods to avoid for those who experience SIBO
  • The major mechanisms involved in the pathophysiology of SIBO, including various mechanisms of malabsorption, causes of enteric nervous system degeneration, and the brain-gut axis dysregulation involving both motility and intestinal valve control
  • Clinical jewels and insights
