Module_5_Perimenopause_and_Andropause

This unique 1-day course will focus on understanding the proper physiology of hormones in the later decades of life.

Topics presented will include understanding how to assess and recognize triggers of abnormal physiology, which is imperative to maintain proper health. In addition, attendees will understand the basic physiology, fundamental concepts, and mechanisms of perimenopause and andropause.

A review of human physiology will be followed by laboratory applications, differential diagnoses, and clinical applications. Attendees will also be presented case studies with clinical applications, assessment, and health maintenance (including dietary, lifestyle, and nutritional support), all from an evidence-based approach/model, and when to refer for further consultation and/or evaluation. Important clinical jewels and insights will be discussed.

Morning Session

Perimenopause involves vast changes in the neuroendocrine-immune axis that are not limited to a drop in estrogen alone. This informative presentation will review the alterations of intercellular messengers, such as cytokines, hormones, neurotransmitters, and prostaglandins that take place in perimenopausal women. The influence of neuroendocrine modulators on aspects of bone density, brain function, immune function, thyroid physiology, and metabolism will be discussed. The information’s relevance to clinical laboratory analysis will also be presented.

Topics
  • Bodily changes during perimenopause and menopause
  • Conditions that may develop from perimenopause and menopause physiology, including increased risks for cardiovascular, skeletal, autoimmune, and neurological conditions
  • Laboratory analysis to determine how the body is being affected by perimenopause
Afternoon Session

This informative seminar will review the common mechanisms of andropause development. Unlike the dramatic hormonal changes that occur during menopause with women, the age-related hormonal changes in men are subtle. In fact, these occur gradually throughout the years of mature life. Andropause is more complex than just low testosterone levels and testosterone replacement therapy. The speaker will discuss how these changes impact the brain, immune system, cardiovascular system, and digestive system.

Topics
  • The influence of andropause on neurodegeneration, cardiovascular health, the intestinal barrier, blood glucose, and the immune system
  • Mechanisms of andropause development
